"Eat with Family" - a group Art Exhibition
It's been my personal goal to be involved in at least 1 exhibition every year. The biggest gotta be my 1st solo show "Mee Suah" in 2008. Well, this year with bb Edda on the way, I thought would not be able to come up with anything :( Fortunately & quite timely enough, I was approached by Kelvin, 1 of the curators of this exhibition, to be part of this show. Of course I agreed to participate almost immediately! ;)
I'm showcasing a family portrait in my knitted art style. 48x36inches, my biggest piece of knitted art so far ;) Yes, VERY AMBITIOUS indeed... :P Nevertheless, it's been fun working on it... I believe bb Edda enjoys the process too, since she's ALWAYS kicking while I'm painting! ;P Kelvin, thanx for the opportunity !
I'll be at the opening on 17th May 2010 (Mon). Sure hope to see some fo u there too! ;)
FreeForm Knitted Art in "1st Small Sculpture Show"
Yay...! My work had been selected to be on "The Transitions" exhibition, in conjunction to Sculpture Square's 10th Anniversary celebrations! There was a nice & successful opening last Friday (2nd Oct), & the exhibition will run till 30th October 2009.
Exciting September
After a quiet August, September seems like an awakening, with new projects, exhibitions & many events coming the way...

As some of u know, I'm also teaching 'O' Level Art at Singapore Chinese Girls' School. This year, the school has given me the Sec.3 class, hence we have the luxury of time to explore many fun projects. We showcased our Project Runway @SCGS over at the school's Honours Day Celebration on 3rd September (last Thursday). As part of our fashion design exercise, my students came up with their own designs & constructed their designs from various recycled materials. Click here to read more about their respective works.
I decided to join the fun & be part of the show as well...
Due to some miscommunications with the mannequin supplier, most of our mannequins came without hair/wig! :( duh... So I came up with this idea to include some hyperbolic knitting & crochet to mimic the coral reefs of the underwater world & incorporate it into a head-gear for 4 of the mannequins.
I made hair-bands for the 2 lucky ones with wigs.
For those that comes with hair, I helped "accessorized" them a little :)
The whole experience was both fun & stressful (tight deadlines among their heavy study workload) for the gals. I'm really proud of them. Well, done, Gals! ;)
The next big thing on my mind now is Knotty Bicsie's 3rd Birthday Bash in October! Well, the following will be all lined up in October for the celebrations:

I"M BACK!!!
Had a good break in Bali. Even though it was way too touristy for Ed & I, we still had a good time interacting with our guides & some locals we met along the way. In fact, we are already planning for another trip back to Bali this December :P This time we're bringing my parents along :)
1st week of August had been rather quiet, & that was why we had this last minute decision to go to Bali :P However, August has also brought a few happy rhapsodies...
1) My proposal/work-in-progress has been selected to be exhibited in "1st Small Sculpture Show" organized by Sculpture Square. So right now I'm busy completing my soft sculpture entitled "My Imagination" :)
2) Had a good time KNITTING BY THE POOL IN BALI! :P hehe.... Yes, u can say I'm obsessed! :P
3) A few wonderful crafty friends agreed to come onboard & be part of Knotty Bicsie's 3rd Anniversary Celebration this October! We are planning for "Handmade-A-Fair" - a mini Art Bazaar @my humble Admiralty Drive home studio! Will be sending out e-blast with more details soon...

Knotty Bicsie on ATC Parade
National day is drawing near... this means ATC on Parade is round the corner too! Like last year, I'm participating in an ATC (Artist Trading Card) Exhibition, organized by Pauseability. This year, we'll be having the exhibition @Bishan Library, 6th - 13th Aug 2009. Come join us for a trading session on 13th August (Thursday) from 6.30-8.30pm at Bishan Library to mark the closing of the exhibition, or U can also take this opportunity to meet all the ATC-artists. Cya! :)
Much Ado About Nothing
Last weekend turns out to be a really enjoyable one. We celebrated Adrian's birthday over "Much Ado About Nothing" @Fort Canning Park. All thanx to our dear friend, Michael Corbidge (who's 1 of the main casts), we got our tix at 20% discount! & most gratefully, we got a sumptuous picnic spread! Yum!
The stage setting is simply beautiful! I love the pool & Edward loves the wooden frames. Gorgeous! It was a FULL HOUSE that night.
Bought Adrian's birthday cake from tcc. Cocoa Cointreau is so yummy! Definitely will go for the cake again! Chenyee, the other Adrian, Deborah, Edward & I shared to buy a BIG BOXFUL OF YARNS for Adrian. Yes, Adrian knits alot too! In fact, some of you might even own Adrian's creations! ;) Actually, he's been knitting some pretty rose brooches, bags & "ginger-bread-man dolls" for Knotty Bicsie. So now u know who are, proud owner of Adrian's masterpieces ;)
Since it was still exam period, I only had a morning class on Sunday the following day, so Edward & I decided to go check out "Da Vinci - The Genius" Exhibition @Science Centre. Well, it was interesting, but I think it was more interesting to Edward, then it was to me, since I knew more about Da Vinci than him :) can see those aero-dynamic inventions really excite him a lot :)
It sure has been a long long time since Edward & I can can spend quality weekend times together like last 2 weekends. To think that I'm running a home-based cottage business, yet so little time with my loved ones. I really can't imagine how much quality family time normal working couples have! This is kinda scary & sad :(

I had fun making this postcard to be exhibited together with other 200+ artists from around the world. The exhibition is opening this Saturday. All postcards on display are for sale. Do join us. Time flies... Today is the last day of Mee Suah Exhibition @The Arts House. But you know what? A group of knitting/crochet enthusiasts & I are already planning for next year's Mee Suah Party! Felicity
This piece is called Felicity because it has all my favourite citrus colours. I almost can smell all the wonderful citrus fruits as I was completing it, & this sensation made me very happy throughout...
A little side track from my work... :P Those of you who came to Mee Suah Opening, if you like my goodie bag & Knotty Pom Charms, well, they were all lovingly prepared by my inspiring teacher, my Mom! Thanx, Mummy! :)

Passion
This is the very 1st FreeForm Knitted Art I did last year. It was a breakthrough for me indeed. When Ed asked me one day last year why I wasn't doing any painting after I quit my job, I started to wonder myself too...? So I went online I typed "knitted art" on my google search. I was amazed & totally inspired by what I found! I am most inspired by Prudence Mapstone & Jenny Dowde's intriguing work of art. Since knitting/crochet & painting are all extremely therapeutic for me, I decided to combine these 2 skills I have & came up with my own version of FreeForm Knitted Art, which I'm sure is visually stimulating to all viewers. I like how they leaves room for my viewers' imagination, while it is a very child-like play of colours & texture for me as the maker.
Possession?... Awakening!
This piece of work has a very special significance to me. When I was at a cross-road 2years ago, when I sought refugee back at my Mom's home for a week, I knitted this small baby blouse. Despite it being my very first project, I surprisingly completed it within 4days, shocking my Mom even more! It almost felt as though i was possessed by the "God of Knit"! Or i should say I was BLESSED by the "God of Knit" for all was clear to me by the time this little virgin project was completed. I knew very clearly then, which direction I should proceed on into the next phase of my life. Mee Suah Opening
Finally, steamy hot Mee Suah was served to all last Saturday! It sure was a hit, with about 100 guests crowding the small Arts House Foyer! It was very overwhelming for me indeed. Thank you all for sharing my joy of my 1st solo exhibition! My photographer is in the process of consolidating the photos of last Saturday. Will post them up here once they are ready. meanwhile, here's some shots of my colourful mee suah for al to enjoy....

Steaming Hot & Yummy Mee Suah
Last week had been extremely nerve-wrecking & fingers-cramping. It was a mad rush, trying to finish up my work & also preparing for other nitty gritty things like tagging & framing. Luckily Jeff (my frame guy) has been superbly efficient & helpful in agreeing to help me do so many last minute job :P Thanx, Jeff!
When we reached the Arts House Foyer last Friday, the Technicians were busy tearing down the previous artist's exhibits of 10 big posters. When all the posters were down, I couldn't help but felt an overwhelming rush of excitement & stress, coz suddenly the Foyer is so bare & HUGE!!! Now I'm worried my tiny work will be totally swallowed up by the space!
So we quickly got down to work... I did a few quick sketches to show the helpful Technicians where I want which specific artwork. We also discussed about the general setting & layout before we get down to serious work... Thank goodness all was smooth & well. I also have to securely tack all my little creations down to the pedestals so Mary & Sheila can have a peace in mind, & not have to continuously re-arrange my stuff. Guess what? My worry could not have been proven more relevant! There was an "earthquake" on Sunday, when the whole pedestal, which my Knotty Ele friends are resting on, was knocked over by a clumsy passerby & my whole work fell onto the marble floor with a BIG BOOM! Well, good news is that it's proven how shock-proof my works are! Iyo... sure hope this is a 1-off bizarre accident!
The space is indeed too big for my petite work, & there isn't much wall space to hang my paintings, so I had to plan for new things to work on the layout. Returned on Saturday again to put up more stuff. Luckily I still got 1more week before official opening to work on the space. Ganbatte ne!
Jiahui, my sis's boyfriend, came over to help me take some shots of the products. Will need them for Knotty Bicsie's official website. He LOVES photography & he's a great photographer, you'll see! ;)
Now I would say Mee Suah is 90% ready to be served! Left 1more floor piece, which hopefully will be a surprise for everyone...

Well, in case u start wondering if my fingers are still knitting/crocheting Mee Suah, or just clicking in front of my Mac, I decided to start letting u take small peeps at my work-in-progress...

Funky Knit @MAAD Last Weekend
8 new Funky Knitters joined in the charming knitting journey this time. If not for the loud jamming @MAAD, the sessions were much cozier this time, with 1-4 Funky Knitters in each session.
The morning group was the luckiest, since the rockers had not arrived yet! :P We chit-chatted as we knit, it was really relaxing & fun :) Audrey apparently met me during my 1st MAAD session 2years ago! She's so in love with my bags & name card, she's been regularly checking out my blog ever since! Wow, what a loyal fan! This time she's here with her Mum, Helen, to learn to knit for the 1st time. Their classmate, Shian is a regular at MAAD. So will definitely be seeing one another around @MAAD again :)

Meijun was introduced by her friend, Liling, who attended our previous Funky Knit Workshop @MAAD. Tingbee was supposed to knit with Meijun, unfortunately she caught a very bad flu over the weekend & had to miss the session. :( Tingbee, hope you are feeling much better now.

It's been a long long time since I last met up with Rayson. Rayson decided to "visit" my stall @MAAD to pick up knitting, & then we can go to a friend's house-warming in the evening together.
Knitting has been so stereotyped to be an activity done by OLD GRANNIES IN ROCKING CHAIRS, it can be so hilarious sometimes! I can't help but notice some Knotty Fans' surprise look when they 1st see me in person! iyo.... hehe.... Actually it is said that crochet & knitting were first started by MEN! In fact, soldiers during the 1st world war even knitted their own socks! See how my hubby, Edward, is now able to be my assistant instructor in knitting too? I'm so proud of him! :)
Edward also helped me coached Sherry & Huimin, who came in for the last session of the day. Sherry bought a amigurumi kit set & wanted to learn to crochet. But since we are only doing knitting, Sherry was game enough to bring a friend, Huimin, to learn to knit anyway.

On Sunday, Mandy brought her 13-year-old daughter, Megan, to MAAD & asked to learn to knit. Since I was free, I sat down with Megan to knit as well...
