July Rhapsody

Hello Knotty Fans! We hope July has been bright and sunny for everyone! Itx been a little crazier for me coz besides our growing ongoing classes, itx my little Edda's 4th Birthday this month! So glad I haven't "lost my edge", & managed to crochet this sweet blouse & her Frozen Snowflake Charm in time for her Frozen-themed party :D This lovely smile just made all the hard work absolutely worthwhile :)

To our new fans who had just joined us over at our crafting studio at Orchard Plaza, we are excited to have you with us on this crafty journey and we are definitely looking forward to sharing your knitting & crochet journey.

We continue to be thrilled to see all the amazing creations our existing Knotty Fans have been crocheting & knitting up at our studio, and it always brightens up everyone’s day when we get to see their completed amazing “works-of-heart”.  And sometimes, when Knotty Fans send me photos of their completed “secret projects”, which they work independently at home, I can’t help but glee with joy & pride! Thank you for sharing your joy! :D

While you continue to wrap the yarn around your needles, let’s chat a bit about KNITTING.  Some of u asked me who invented knitting?

How interesting whenever we speak about knitting, a stereotyped image of an old granny clicking those needles away on a rocking chair appears in that little thinking cloud!  Oh no, there is no rocking chair over at Knotty Bicsie studio, or at least not now …… but who knows? :P

Now, who says the men don't get it?? :P

Some hard facts according to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_knitting), it was believed to have been originated from Middle East (Egypt) and the earliest evidence was related to a resemblance of knitted socks, even though there weren’t any concrete clues to knitting’s age.  While the craft of knitting transmitted across the globe, items like knitted cushions, stockings and garments etc. were among the knitted works produced.

Now let’s fast forward to our modern world. Knitting continues to be a therapeutic hobby among people of all ages and genders all over the world.  Exciting & Interesting yarns, paired with cool patterns, techniques and stitches available today, we are constantly inspired to create our very own one-of-a-kind masterpieces!

ALL of you have assumed that knitting & crochet are my passion. Hence Knotty Bicsie was born. Truth is, my passion is actually in the process of creating & making things from scratch. I just happened to have discovered knitting & crochet some 8years ago, when my soul was starving to MAKE MAKE MAKE! And so, knitting & crochet became a therapeutic medium to satisfy that hunger & craving to just CREATE! Well, the rest, like what they always say, is history. J And this is why I always tell people that Knotty Bicsie is a “happy accident”! ;) Nonetheless, knitting and crochet has indeed given me huge sense of contentment, accomplishment, satisfaction & completeness!  Totally indulging in & grateful for this amazing journey…
Fingers itching already? Sounds too tempting? Let’s put on some music, make your favourite cuppa, sink into your favourite couch, and ENJOY some wonderful knitting and crochet today!  ;D

Knitting & Crocheting Away in Orchard!

HELLO Knotty Fans!  Whoa, can’t imagine how time files and it’s actually almost end of April now.

It’s been almost 2 months since our little charming craft studio settled down in the heart of Singapore’s busy Orchard Road and YES… it’s really awesome over here. Come by and say Hello if you happen to be in town conducting your “retail therapy” ;)
Did we not mention about the array of lovely yarns that we currently have in store, and I am sure you will be inspired and charmed away by all the beautiful shades.  Haha… did we just give you an excuse to get those knitting needles and crochet hooks clicking away happily again!

By the way, mark your calenders if you have not (we just did on ours), Mother’s Day is coming up soon! Whether you are a mom, daughter, granny or even son or daddy …… we all know, being a mom is the “World’s Toughest Job” hence don’t forget to give yourself or your mommies a little “ME time” to recharge.  Don’t we all agree that mommies are Superheroes, except that we don’t actually don a cape (maybe we should just knit ourselves a Wonder Woman’s cape) or fly through the sky on a rescue mission *wink*

Personally I feel that engaging in a hobby really sets aside time just for “ME”.  Enjoying a couple of hours off without being under my pile of overwhelming laundry or sweating it out in my kitchen whipping up a never ending banquet really is a breather and a great way to unwind!
Still cracking your head in search of the perfect gift for Mother's Day? Look no more, coz it's time to get Mom a NEW HOBBY in knitting & crochet! Wouldn’t it be nice to keep mom accompany and spend some special bonding moments together whilst learning something new and even making new friends. :)
Crafting is definitely a therapeutic hobby, something we all agree that is fun, easy and relaxing! (Look at how all our Knotty Fans over at the studio now nodding their heads ;P)  So if you are thinking of rekindling your love for knitting & crochet, or engaging in a new knitting or crochet hobby, you know where to find us now ;)

Best Way to Celebrate our Knotty 6th Birthday!

"Happy Birthday to you,
  Happy Birthday to you.
  Happy Birthday to Knotty Bicsie,
  Happy Birthday to you!" :)

Every year on our Anniversary month, we are always VERY BUSY. This year is no exception. Besides our ongoing workshops & usual custom orders, we've been burning more midnight oil to prepare for our Knotty Handmade-A-Fair & also for our annual "pilgrimage" to participate in Hwa Chong Institute's Sabbatical Programs.
This year's Knotty Handmade-A-Fair was quite a bit of challenge for me. A chain of events kinda hit on me at the most untimely hours... First of all was our decision to withdraw our girl from her childcare because of numerous incidences that happened obviously due to teacher negligence. Hence I had to re-schedule all my classes to Sat, Sun & Mon, so I can homeschool Edda from Tues-Fri. This leaves me with the nights to prepare teaching resources & also to work on your orders. No doubt rewarding (both working on your wonderful orders & also homeschooling Edda), there is afterall a limit to what we can do. My body finally protest & I was down with bronchitis just 2days before Knotty Handmade-A-Fair!!! There cannot be any worse timing for this to happen, right?!?! :(
All thanks to our wonderful crafty friends, Knotty Elves & hubby, who were holding the fortress on our BIG DAY, Knotty Handmade-A-Fair was yet another HUGE success! Yippee...! :) View more photos of the day on our facebook fanpage . Thankfully, I was also blessed with a very quick recovery. In fact, I was feeling so much better by the actual day, I was able to mingle & chit-chat with our Knotty Fans :)

Immediately after Knotty Handmade-A-Fair, I was kept extremely busy preparing materials & resources for our workshops at Hwa Chong Institute (HCI). This year we offer 5 different workshops:

Funky Knit

Crochet Craze

Basic Shuttle Tatting

Rubber Stamp Carving

Miniature Basket of Bread

This is the first time we are offering Crochet Craze to such a big group of participants. I was conservative & cap the class size to a max of 12participants, & provided 2instructors for the workshop. Well, some of u might have noticed by now that it is not easy to find teacher willing to teach crochet; & for those of u who only just picked up crochet, or even tried teaching crochet, will know that crochet is not easy to pick up for most beginner. Lotsa personal attention needs to be given to be able to teach crochet properly. I'm proud to say that the "success rate" of our workshops so far (including Crochet Craze who are left-handed) has been a glorious 100%! Woohoo...! :D And our 1st big class of Crochet Craze was a hit too! This surely boost my confidence & I'm so gonna propose for a bigger class next year! :)

October is definitely Knotty Bicsie's favourite month of the year! Our Anniversary month is always so jam-packed with exciting activities, & we get to meet so many new Knotty Fans, plus all Knotty Elves & our crafty friends get to gather & catch up too! Truly grateful for all the love & support from all of you. These SIX years could not be possible without each & everyone of you. THANK YOU!!! Knotty Bicsie will continue to wriggle our fingers & bring you more fantastic Knotty stuffs! ;D

We are SIX!!!

Me & My Bad Habit :/

Sometimes I do get "bored" doing some stuffs, especially when I'm at those "beefing up" stage of a project :/ So I always find myself working on more than a project concurrently, often too many at a go in fact! :P Guess I only have myself to blame when I feel I'm all over the place ba! *sigh* :/

"Birthday Pilgrimage" to HCI

October 12 & 13 have been 2 very special days for Knotty Bicsie since 2009. These are the 2 days when the J1 students of Hwa Chong Institution gets to enjoy their 2 days of Sabbaticals Program, while their teachers go busy marking their exam scripts :P & coincidentally, itx the time when Knotty Bicsie celebrates our Anniversary! So it always feels like a "birthday pilgrimage" for Knotty Bicsie :P
This year, besides our usual Funky Knit & Basic Tatting Workshop, we also collaborated with Japonicas to conduct a very special course - "Mu" Workshop (Terrarium & Hand-Bouquet).

I'm really excited when the teacher-incharge told me the wonderful news of "full-house" for Funky Knit Workshop on both days. This means Knotty Bicsie will be able to spread knitting as a therapeutic hobby to 50 new Funky Knitters!!! It's indeed an honour to be able to make crafting (knitting in this case) a modern way of life for everyone. & I give myself a pat on my shoulder with every new Funky Knitter that Knotty Bicsie successfully teach :) So 50pats this year... I can have a massage liao! Woohoo... :P

With 2 full classes this year, which means I had to bring more "Knotty Elves" along... :P

Meet Master Wenn Yann.
Wenn Yann is extremely experienced in her knitting & crochet. In fact, I would say she's much more experienced than me! Knotty Bicsie is so honoured to have her join our humble team. Wenn Yann's experience, patience & approachable personality makes everyone (students, other "Knotty Elves" & myself) simply adores & respects her :)

Meet Knotty Elf - Chenyen.
Chenyen has a long history with Knotty Bicsie. We 1st met some 4years ago, when I conducted my very 1st corporate knitting workshop @Anderson JC. Chenyen was 1 of the very enthusiastic students I met then. Some even went to MAAD to look for me after the workshop! It was indeed a very encouraging & heartwarming experience for me. It was also a pleasant surprise when Chenyen called me up 1 day to say she'd like to continue knitting & learn more about knitting. & the rest, like they say, is history... From a young Funky Knitter, Chenyen has now bloomed into a wonderful Knotty Knitting Instructor (which never fails to surprise her friends)!

Meet Knotty Elf - Gina.
Gina is an extremely talented crafter. Among all the handicrafts, u name it, she probably had properly learnt from a teacher & even has a proper tool set for them :P Since she's left-handed, I was initially apprehensive about teaching her to crochet. When we both finally picked up the courage to just give it a shot, I was immediately amazed at & impressed with Gina's psychomotor skills! Within minutes, she was crocheting like a right-handed Crochet Craze! Nothing can stop her now! ;) She was shy & unsure when I 1st approached her to join the Knotty Elf Team. Very glad I finally managed to convince her (after a lot of persuasion & assurance! :P). Look at that smile! I know the students really like her & I know she truly enjoyed herself too! :)

Meet our dear friend, Ayako.
Ayako is not really our "official Knotty Elf", but she's always so willing to help when I need extra hands. Ayako is much more than just extra help. To me, Ayako's been a guide, a listening ear & a supportive friend. Thanks so much, my dearest friend Ayako!
