NEW! Finger Knitting & Decoupage Tile Coasters Workshop

The school holidays are here & X'mas is just round the corner! As usual, Knotty Bicsie has prepared a few special workshops for our Knotty Fans this season. These workshops are suitable for children too. Great time to come learn something new & be able to hand-make something for your love ones this X'mas! :)

Finger knitting is a form of knitting done entirely using fingers with no knitting needles involved in this technique! It is a fun way to introduce knitting to anyone, including children and easy to learn. A great way to keep one occupied too, e.g. travelling, as it is safe to do finger-knitting on planes.

Finger knitting produces a long thin strip of stitches which can be made into many useful items such as a scarf, belt, hair / gift decoration!

Course Fees: S$28.00/pax, INCLUDES materials.Limited seats only. Email bicsie@gmail.com to register now! :)

Decoupage is the art of decorating an object using paper cut-outs, giving an appearance of depth and makes the pictures look as though they are painted on the object. Decoupage is a fun and easy way to decorate any object from small vases to large furniture. Best of all, decoupage can be learnt quickly in just a few steps.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to decorate tile coasters using decoupage, which make lovely handmade gifts for any occasion!

Course Fees: S$48.00/pax, INCLUDES materials.
Limited seats only. Email bicsie@gmail.com to register now! :)

Best Way to Celebrate our Knotty 6th Birthday!

"Happy Birthday to you,
  Happy Birthday to you.
  Happy Birthday to Knotty Bicsie,
  Happy Birthday to you!" :)

Every year on our Anniversary month, we are always VERY BUSY. This year is no exception. Besides our ongoing workshops & usual custom orders, we've been burning more midnight oil to prepare for our Knotty Handmade-A-Fair & also for our annual "pilgrimage" to participate in Hwa Chong Institute's Sabbatical Programs.
This year's Knotty Handmade-A-Fair was quite a bit of challenge for me. A chain of events kinda hit on me at the most untimely hours... First of all was our decision to withdraw our girl from her childcare because of numerous incidences that happened obviously due to teacher negligence. Hence I had to re-schedule all my classes to Sat, Sun & Mon, so I can homeschool Edda from Tues-Fri. This leaves me with the nights to prepare teaching resources & also to work on your orders. No doubt rewarding (both working on your wonderful orders & also homeschooling Edda), there is afterall a limit to what we can do. My body finally protest & I was down with bronchitis just 2days before Knotty Handmade-A-Fair!!! There cannot be any worse timing for this to happen, right?!?! :(
All thanks to our wonderful crafty friends, Knotty Elves & hubby, who were holding the fortress on our BIG DAY, Knotty Handmade-A-Fair was yet another HUGE success! Yippee...! :) View more photos of the day on our facebook fanpage . Thankfully, I was also blessed with a very quick recovery. In fact, I was feeling so much better by the actual day, I was able to mingle & chit-chat with our Knotty Fans :)

Immediately after Knotty Handmade-A-Fair, I was kept extremely busy preparing materials & resources for our workshops at Hwa Chong Institute (HCI). This year we offer 5 different workshops:

Funky Knit

Crochet Craze

Basic Shuttle Tatting

Rubber Stamp Carving

Miniature Basket of Bread

This is the first time we are offering Crochet Craze to such a big group of participants. I was conservative & cap the class size to a max of 12participants, & provided 2instructors for the workshop. Well, some of u might have noticed by now that it is not easy to find teacher willing to teach crochet; & for those of u who only just picked up crochet, or even tried teaching crochet, will know that crochet is not easy to pick up for most beginner. Lotsa personal attention needs to be given to be able to teach crochet properly. I'm proud to say that the "success rate" of our workshops so far (including Crochet Craze who are left-handed) has been a glorious 100%! Woohoo...! :D And our 1st big class of Crochet Craze was a hit too! This surely boost my confidence & I'm so gonna propose for a bigger class next year! :)

October is definitely Knotty Bicsie's favourite month of the year! Our Anniversary month is always so jam-packed with exciting activities, & we get to meet so many new Knotty Fans, plus all Knotty Elves & our crafty friends get to gather & catch up too! Truly grateful for all the love & support from all of you. These SIX years could not be possible without each & everyone of you. THANK YOU!!! Knotty Bicsie will continue to wriggle our fingers & bring you more fantastic Knotty stuffs! ;D

Working from Home...

HELLO!!! I know I haven't been blogging for a long long time... just couldn't find the quality time & discipline to do it :P Many thanks to all Knotty Fans who's been emailing/sms-ing your well-wishes. I feel so loved each time I hear from you peeps. Thank u! :)))

I always say Knotty Bicsie is a "happy accident", yet it's given me & my family our ideal lifestyle. Truly feel very lucky & blessed. Running my little home studio not only has given me lotsa freedom & flexibility to balance between work & family, most importantly now it's given me the joy of witnessing every milestone of my growing little angel. Edda is almost 8months old now... time really flies, watching her learn something new everyday. A little smile from her magically makes everything ok. We all laugh heartily with her whenever she laughs & giggles. She's indeed a bundle of joy packed with abundance of love & warmth :)
Well, besides "entertaining" & "being entertained by" Edda :P , I've been kept busy in our kitchen & our crafting studio too lo. Yup, been cooking almost everyday nowadays, healthier, save $$$, & less disruptive to our little girl's routine in the evening, even though it means getting busy in the kitchen as early as 6+am everyday @_@ So dinner out during Saturday nights have become a little treat for me :)

As for Knotty Bicsie's plan & directions for 2011, we will be focusing more on corporate deals & Weddin'Craft Parties this year...
We've had 2 groups of ladies coming over for their Hen's Party so far, & it's been really fun!

As for corporate workshops, we have the honour of working with Warren Golf Country Club, Singapore Chinese Girls' School Art Club & Sahara Sundance Event Company to conduct knitting & other crafting workshops since last year. All have been fun & exciting. Special thanks to all my instructors too. All these workshops would not be possible without YOU! :) Letx work hard together to make crafting a modern way of life for everyone! ;)

In adjustments to my new routine, Knotty Bicsie Home Studio is now opened on whole of Fri & Sat, & Sun mornings only. Selected Thursday slots are also available. Hence, to avoid disappointment, do book & confirm your slots as early as possible. :)

Introducing 2 of our many new Funky Knitters...
"The pace was slow enough for me therefore I could easily understand what she was teaching me. Now I am able to grasp the basic skills of knitting. As it was also a one-to-one teaching experience, that benefitted a lot as well." - Dellysda, 10th Feb 2011.
Sherman is really sweet & wanted to knit something for his sweetheart as Valentine's Day & went straight to YouTube. Unfortunately it turned out to be a disaster :P & eventually found his way to Knotty Bicsie Home Studio...
"My knitting experience is tough & challenging for me. Tangled up a couple of times & got mistakes. Knitting is not smooth-sailing at all. Thanks to Betsy for her kind patience & faithful teaching!" - Sherman Yeo, 12th Feb 2011.

Besides teaching, my fingers are still wriggling around to make some special orders for Knotty Fans out there. There's been some scarf, baby booties & other orders as well. A Knotty Phant Collector, Jet, kept her promise & came back again for her annual Knotty Phant! Now our 3 Knotty Phants are making friends @Jet's Japonicas Garden :)))
So you see, multi-tasking is definitely an under-statement for Knotty Bicsie this year :P Nevertheless, to maintain the quality of our creations & teachings, I'm sorry I have to disappointment some of you sometimes :( So pls do make your orders & confirm your workshops as early as possible to avoid any disappointment :)

Little House Cushion Workshop on 16th Dec 2010

Our Crafting Studio was filled with chatting & laughter last Thursday when our crafter-in-residence, Periwinkle, had her sewing workshop. 2 of the ladies turned out to be a hardcore fan of Periwinkle even before the workshop! So the experience was like learning from a celebrity idol for them B-) Teacher Suzanne even thoughtfully brought some Nonya pastries for the tea-break. All the colourful & pretty Little Houses sure made our studio a lot more cosy & lovely that day! ;)

KBCC #23 - Colour Pencils

In view of the soon arrival of my little girl, I've decided to stop KBCC for the time-being, until I adapt to my mew role as a mummy :) KBCC met for our last crafting session for this year 2010, last saturday on 24th April 2010. For the 1st time since KBCC shifted our venue to Knotty Bicsie Crafting Studio, we met with some rain at he beginning of our session... Mixed feelings...
For this month's activity, we explored the vast possibilities of colour pencils (both water-soluble & non-water-soluble) as a medium. Colour pencil has always been one of my favourite medium. It's easy to handle, clean & neat :)
As usual, we had our yummy makan time! :) This month, we had yummy 933 Golden Pillow Curry Chicken Bun... When we ran out of curry gravy, KBCC-ians asked for Kaya & we had Kaya Bun for dessert! hehe...
Check out our brilliant work-in-progress! :)))

KBCC #21 - Pocket Tissue Cover

Last Sat, as usual, KBCC met up again to craft. This time round, we did some sewing & made a pocket tissue cover, which we all jokingly claimed that it'll now be our beautiful "tool" to "chop" tables @hawker centres with, with much pride! hehe... :P
Some of us chose to hand-sew, while others happily try our hands at my new sewing machine, which has proven to be very user friendly, even for beginners :) With sewing, of course we also did some ironing. We all had fun!
Check out our masterpieces! ;)

Our dear friend, Ee Wei, once again did her very own KBCC Craft & mail over to us, all the way from Canada. Now Jasper is the proud owner of Ee Wei's "made-with-love". Ee Wei, I've just mailed out Jasper's "made-with-love" out to you yesterday afternoon. So look out for a little surprise in your mailbox ;)
KBCC never goes without yummy food as reward after an afternoon of hardwork :P This time we had sedap lontong :) Despite the heat, everyone went for 2nd, some even 3rd helping, coz it's simply SEDAP! :)
As for dessert, we had chocolate cake in celebration of the February Babies' birthday. Shireen, Ellen & Jasper, here's wishing u once again a happy birthday & may all your wishes come true! :)
Special thanks to our wonderful friend, Suzanne of PeriwinkleSu, who has so generously shared her skills & craft. We love the fabrics u've chosen for us. They are all so pretty! Since this session is so well-received, Suzanne & I have decided to include this project into Knotty Bicsie's list of workshops officially! Details of our very 1st session is as follows...
Pocket Tissue Cover
Date: 20th March 2010 (Sat)
Time: 2-5pm
Limited seats available only.
So email Betsy (bicsie@gmail.com) to reserve a place now. :)

Hand-Stitched Journal Workshop @Civil Service College

I had a fun time with 5 lovely ladies @Civil Service College yesterday morning. They are put in-charged of coaching their colleagues in making something using primarily recycled materials. So my job there was to teach them how to conduct this workshop to all their 50-60 other colleagues :) They were all very sporting & fun-loving. We all had an enjoyable morning...
The very talented Sueann even whipped up a poem especially for me within minutes!
"Betsy's very nice
She taught me a new vice
Measuring, cutting,
Threading, wearing,
With a smile on a face
And a patient grace.
Thanks again, Betsy,
from Knotty Bicsie!"
- Sueann, 21st Jan 2010.

"It's been a fun & interesting session... learning how to put together things we tend to just throw! TQ, Betsy..." - Lynette, 21st Jan 2010.

"Dear Betsy, this is a day I travel back in time some years back to my Home Econs Class. The session has been fun!" - Pauline Ma, 21st Jan 2010.

"Betsy, thank you for the interesting handicraft session. It's fun to make and easy to do." - Pauline Teo, 21st Jan 2010.

"Dear Betsy, thanks for the fun & enriching session. I really enjoyed it!" - Ellen, 21st Jan 2010.

Special thanks to Ellen, who's patiently made all the necessary arrangement, for this fruitful workshop!
Ladies, here's wishing u a successful IPAM day on 19th Feb! All the best! :)

KBCC #19 - Hand-Stitched Journal

It's been 2months... KBCC stopped for 1 session in October coz it was Knotty Bicsie's 3rd Anniversary Celebrations. We finally met up again last Sat (28th Nov) & made some pretty hand-stitched journals :)
I've been very busy for the past few months since September, & I think I almost have neglected KBCC a bit. Sorry! :( Thank goodness our KBCC Family is very closely-knitted & everyone's always very helpful & generous. This time Moses once again came to my rescue by helping to conduct this fruitful session. Thank you, Moses!
We were all busy cutting paper, folding paper, poking holes, & stitching... before we were rewarded with our makan session! We had yummy home-made keuh patti, courtesy of our new member, Suzanne. Thank you so much, Suzanne! ;)
Check out our colourful hand-stitched journals! Yay!

Knotty Tea Party - "Handmade-A-Fair"

Last Saturday was Knotty Bicsie's 3rd Birthday Bash & it was a GREAT HIT! Our usual idyllic crafting studio was flooded with Knotty Fans & we were all packed like sardines! :P My family, friends & I were definitely very overwhelmed by the crowd. So Knotty Fans whom I did not get to talk to much, please forgive me. :P I felt like an octopus that day! haha.... :D Special thanx to Moses of Pauseability who came by to share with everyone about ATC. That 15min of "breather" for all the "stall-holders" was definitely precious! :P
Also special thanx to my splendid helper, Azreen. Azreen, Thank u so much! I know I can always count on U! :)
Here am I, caught by Jullie, in one of the rarest moment of relaxation on Sat :P

A few of my very talented creative friends definitely add lotsa vibrant colours to Knotty Bicsie's humble birthday party. Just beside me was Michelle & Jullie showcasing their crochet dolls & accessories. I'm sure all of you are VERY FAMILIAR with Jullie by now. We've worked together a few times already. We are "extra hands" to each other in many of our crafting endeavors :P Jullie, thank you for your friendship! :)

Here's the beautiful stall of Japonicas by Jet. While Jet was enjoying her holiday trip in HK, Mum & Pearlin helped sell her pretty Japonicas. They are so charming, Pearlin actually spent her entire pay for the day as a Japonica salesgirl, on a necklace & ring! haha... :D

Wendy of Tagaholic brought her little daughter along to let her experience "the morale of doing business & that $ does not come easy, & of course to have fun" (Wendy's exact words :P). Wow, a mum never fails to capture "teachable" moments! O, Wendy even very thoughtfully made a "Blessing Book" for me as a gift! (It's the beautiful red guestbook, in which all of u penned down your wishes & blessings for Knotty Bicsie!) Thank u so so much, Wendy! ;) Suzanne of Periwinkle-Su is undoubtedly one of the shining star on Sat. Her stuffs were almost "SOLD OUT" by the end of the day! I'm also a proud owner of Suzanne's hand-quilted work! ;)

Ayako of Something Magickal had the most "peaceful" stall inside my personal studio space, where she did 5 intuitive drawings & sold some of her postcards & medicine bag. She even did a very special "Red & Black Maneki Neko" for Ed & I as a gift for Knotty Bicsie's 3rd Anniversary! Thank u so much, my dear friend! We love it! :)

One of the most interesting stalls has to be Ellen's Singtatter-Corner! many Knotty Fans never even heard of tatting before last Saturday! & everyone is totally awed & impressed by Ellen's intricately beautiful hand-tatted creations. O, & Ellen's son, Ivan, even conducted a mini origami workshop for some Knotty Fans that day. Ellen & Ivan, thank you for sharing your work. We all learnt something new that day!

"When I Was Four" is a new indie label, but their creativity definitely is not new to us. Remember my Knotty Bicsie Shoes, which everyone adores? Well, it's hand-painted by Liling lo! So glad to see many new designs on that day.

Yet another special thanx to a dear friend, Adrian, who baked some beautiful cakes & made some yummy chocolates for Knotty Tea Party. Everyone kept asking for more! Adrian, I am so gonna cater from you when I have my very own KBCC (Knotty Bicsie Crafting Cafe) one day! ;)

Of course we did not forget our lucky draw! Lucky winners definitely went home even happier with our unique handmade prizes. :) As for our Birthday Give-Away, the lucky winner who gets to adopt our kawaii Knotty Phant is.... *drum roll*... our very dear friend, Ee Wei!!! Knotty Phant is going to Edmonton!!! Yay...!!! EeWei, I'm sure this little fella is gonna keep u very warm this X'mas! Just don't let your new cats eat him up! :P

Besides our Lucky Draw, everyone also gets to go home with our very own hand-crochet goodie bags! Took my Mum & I almost 3 weeks to make these for everyone! Lotsa hard work for sure, but it's all worthwhile :)
Our very 1st "Handmade-A-Fair" is such a HUGE success, we are already planning to have a bigger one next time! :P After Knotty Fans went home happy & satisfied from their shopping spree, we stayed on for a little de-brief to discuss how to make our next Handmade-A-Fair an even better one for you. So do be on a look out for our next Handmade-A-Fair coming your way, even bigger than this one! ;)
Many Knotty Fans were so so so sweet & brought presents for Knotty Bicsie too! Check out my new treasures... It was a birthday packed with abundance indeed... abundance of joy, abundance of well-wishes, abundance of laughters, abundance of prosperity, abundance of creativity, abundance of friendship & love... thank u all for making our humble home a house of abundance with all your support & blessings!!!
